In Oncourse CL, how do I save course materials beyond eight semesters?

Course sites in Oncourse CL are kept on the servers for eight semesters (summer sessions I and II are counted as one semester). If you would like access to instructor-generated course material beyond that time frame, copy your course site by importing it into a project site; project sites do not have expiration dates.

Note: The procedure described here will copy the framework of your course, e.g., the forums and topics without the postings, the assignments without the student submissions, and the gradebook items without the grades. It will not copy any student information, but it will copy content such as syllabus, resources, and wiki pages.

To import your course into a project site:

  1. Use the request form to request a project site.

  2. Once administrators have set up your project site, enter the site and click Site Setup. You might consider adding one or more participants to your site with the Owner role to assist with disseminating content in the future. See Adding, editing, or removing participants.

  3. Use Edit Tools to make sure all the tools for which you have content are selected in your project site. See Adding, editing, or removing tools.

  4. From the menu near the top of the page, choose Import from Site.

  5. Choose to merge or replace your data. If you want to import your Gradebook settings, choose I would like to replace my data.

  6. Choose the course you want to save from the list, and click Continue.

  7. Choose the content you want to save from the list, and click Finish.

  8. Your course content will now appear in your project site. From here, you will be able to import that content into other course or project sites as needed.

If you have assessments from the Original Test and Survey tool that you wish to save, you will need to do that separately, as you cannot import assessment content using Import from Site:

  1. In your course site, click Original Test and Survey.

  2. From the Main Menu, choose Export Tests and Surveys.

  3. Save the resulting file to your local computer.

  4. Enter the project site you are using to save your course site, and choose Resources.

  5. In an appropriate folder, from the Add menu, choose Upload Files.

  6. Browse to the file in which you saved your assessment data, and click Upload Files Now.

  7. Your assessment file is now saved in your project site.

Note: If you forget to save a course site before it is removed from Oncourse CL, contact  ocadmin@iu.edu  for assistance in recovering your data.
