In UMS, what is Dial by Name and how do I access it?
When dialing into the Unified Messaging Service (UMS) system, you can place a call by using the Dial by Name option. If a user is in the UMS directory you can access the user's telephone number by entering the first four characters of the user's last name. Not all users have elected to be published in the UMS directory.
To use Dial by Name, follow the instructions below:
- Dial the telephone number for UMS on your campus; see What are the telephone numbers for UMS?
- Enter your full 10-digit mailbox number (e.g., 812-855-4848), not
just the last 5 digits.
- Enter your UMS passcode, and then press # .
- Press 9 to place a call, and then press 2 to use the Dial by Name feature.
- Enter the first four characters of the user's last name. The
system will then play the name and telephone number of all users in
the UMS directory whose names start with those four characters.
- Enter the 10-digit telephone number of the party you would like to call. The system will then transfer your call to that telephone number.
