At IU, how do I set up my UMS voice mail?

When you receive an email confirmation that your Unified Messaging Service (UMS) voice mail account has been provisioned and a temporary passcode has been assigned, you can access the system, which will guide you through a tutorial to complete the set up of your UMS voice mail account. To begin, follow the instructions below:

To dial into the UMS Voice Mail system:

  • At Indiana University Bloomington, from on campus, dial 6-9800. From off campus, dial 812-856-9800.
  • At IUPUI, from on campus, dial 8-4288. From off campus, dial 317-278-4288.

The tutorial will prompt you to choose a new passcode, which you will enter each time you access the voice mail system from your telephone. Be sure to define a new passcode that is easy to remember, yet difficult for others to guess. Your new passcode must contain seven to ten digits.

The tutorial will prompt you to record your greeting. Callers will hear this greeting when you are away from your desk or room, or when you are on the phone.

The tutorial will prompt you to record your name so that the system can:

  • Address you when you call into the system
  • Inform other users when a message comes from you
  • State your name to other users when they address messages to your mailbox

Note: You must complete the entire tutorial before exiting the system, or your changes will not be saved.

If you need assistance with your office voice mail at IUB, call 812-856-2287; at IUPUI, call 317-274-3004.
