ARCHIVED: Are the CLSD data simply copies of publicly available data?
The Indiana University Centralized Life Sciences Data (CLSD) service was retired June 18, 2010.
A dataset mirror is usually just a copy of a dataset existing at another site, so, strictly speaking, Centralized Life Sciences Data (CLSD) at Indiana University is not mirroring data. In other words, CLSD is not a mirror site for the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) or the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG).
Datasets imported into CLSD from remote sites are transformed into relational form as they are inserted into CLSD. Such transformation makes the data accessible in different ways, such as through the Structured Query Language (SQL), which makes data use much more convenient and efficient.
Data in relational form, however, is not suitable for downloading for local use, as might be done from the NCBI site, and is accessible only through the CLSD SQL interface.
