In Windows Defender, how do I remove or restore items from quarantine?

To view items quarantined by Windows Defender, click the Tools icon and select Quarantined items. Highlight an item to see detailed information about it.

Removing quarantined items

In most cases, Windows Defender will quarantine only harmful files. Quarantined files no longer pose a threat to your computer, and you can safely remove them:

  1. Check the box next to each item you want to remove.

  2. Click Remove.
Note: To remove all quarantined items, click Remove All.

Restoring quarantined items

Occasionally, Windows Defender may quarantine a legitimate piece of software; this is called a false positive. If you're certain it's harmless, you can restore a false positive to its proper place on your computer:

  1. Check the box next to each item you want to restore.

  2. Click Restore.
