In email, what is a whitelist?

A whitelist in email is a list of contacts that bypass any type of special rules (e.g., spam filters) placed on mailboxes. Whitelists can be an effective way to reduce the amount of email incorrectly identified as spam (also known as false positives).

For information on how to use a whitelist with IU Webmail, see the Knowledge Base document In IU Webmail, how do I use the Whitelist filter rule to avoid having legitimate mail quarantined as spam?
