Using Exchange mail at IU, how does the spam quarantine service integrate with Outlook's Junk E-mail settings?
Note: The spam quarantine service
analyzes all mail delivered to Indiana University
Cyrus/Webmail and Exchange accounts. Any spam
messages you receive are quarantined for five days in a
Spam (Cyrus/Webmail) or Junk E-mail
(Exchange) folder in your account. After five days, the spam service
deletes these messages automatically. For more, see At IU, what is the spam quarantine service?
When using Outlook 2003 or 2007 or Outlook Web Access (OWA), your Safe Senders, Safe Recipients, and Blocked Senders lists are stored on the Exchange server. When Exchange's Intelligent Message Filter (IMF) evaluates a message, it looks at your personal lists before determining a delivery location.
Outlook 2003 and 2007 and OWA (using Internet Explorer) provide a Junk E-mail actions menu when you right-click a message.
In Cached Exchange Mode, Outlook 2003 and 2007 can also
perform client-side evaluations of messages that are delivered to your
inbox. If you set Outlook's level of filtering to High, the
client will be more strict than the Exchange server, and may generate
false positives.
Note: With the spam quarantine service, messages
are automatically deleted from the Junk E-mail folder
five days after they're received. Both Outlook and OWA provide a
Recover Deleted Items interface, so you can retrieve messages
purged from the Junk E-mail folder for up to 15 days after they're
deleted. For more, see At IU, how can I recover deleted items in Outlook if I am an Exchange user?
