In the IUB STCs, what is an AI printing bonus and how do I get one?

Indiana University recognizes the value of associate instructors (AIs) to its instructional mission and encourages its graduate students to take advantage of the opportunities afforded to them as AIs.

AIs often have to prepare and print materials for distribution to the classes they teach. Normally, these materials are prepared on departmentally owned printing resources. However, occasionally a graduate student may print these materials using Student Technology Center (STC) resources. In these instances, the graduate student's personal STC printing allotment is charged.

To avoid penalizing students for their work-related printing, the IU Bloomington STCs allow departments to provide their students with a supplemental allotment, so students can use their personal allotment for their own academic objectives.

Graduate students working as AIs are eligible for a 500-page AI bonus, which is granted automatically during the beginning of the semester that the graduate student is serving as an AI.

Note: The AI bonus will not be assigned until graduate student eligibility data has been provided by IUB human resources. This could take as long as one month after the start of classes.

Your AI bonus should be granted no later than the following:

  • For fall: October 1
  • For spring: February 1
  • For summer: June 1

If your AI bonus hasn't been applied by these dates, contact  stcprint@indiana.edu .
