At IU, can I use UMS if I do not have an Exchange account?
You can use Unified Messaging Service (UMS) and most of its features without an Exchange account, but note the following:
- You cannot listen to your email messages via the phone.
- You can listen to voice messages through either your
email client or the phone. However, if you listen to a new
message through your email client and delete it or mark it as read, it
will still be announced as a new message when you listen to your voice
messages through the phone. Additionally, if you listen to a voice
message through the phone first and delete it, your email client will
still show the message as unread.
- If your email system or client has a calendaring function, you cannot listen to your appointments via the phone as you can with an Exchange account.
All other features of UMS are available to non-Exchange users. For more, UMS users can access the UMS Personal Settings web page at:
