At IUPUI, how do I use the media equipment installed in my classroom?

Note: UITS has installed new Crestron interfaces in classrooms at IUPUI, with the exception of BS2000, LD229, HR101, HR191, HR194, and all classrooms in the IT building. Those upgrades will take place during the break between fall and spring semesters.

For information on equipment installed in classrooms at IUPUI, use the IUPUI Classroom Database web form.

Logging in

To access classroom technology installed at IUPUI, faculty and staff must use Crestron passcodes. To obtain the current passcode (good for one semester), contact the campus Support Center.

Note: If the control screen is already visible, skip these steps and proceed to the next section.

  1. If the screen is dark, touch the Crestron touch screen. A numeric keypad will appear.

  2. Type the passcode on the numeric keypad, and then press Enter.

Choosing your A-V equipment

Touch the icon for the A-V equipment you wish to use, e.g., the computer (PC), VCR, or laptop.

Note: Some classrooms will not display the computer output on the monitor until the video (LCD) projector is turned on.

For some equipment, a remote control panel will appear on the touch screen, allowing you to control the device without having to use the controls on the rack-mounted equipment itself.

To turn on the video (LCD) projector, touch an icon and then touch VIDEO at the bottom center. This will turn on the projector (you will hear the cooling fan). When the projector has warmed up, you will see a countdown on the main screen behind you. At "0", the selected video will appear.

Note: Some classrooms have more than one projector. Rather than touching VIDEO at the bottom center, touch the icon for the appropriate projector.

To see which audio and video sources are being played to your class, look at "AUDIO" and "VIDEO" on the bottom center of the Crestron touch screen at any time.

To darken the screen, tap the VIDEO button twice. To return to the video, press once. You can also touch another video source's icon, and then press VIDEO.

Audio control

To control audio for the desired source, touch the speaker volume control located on the lower right corner of the touch screen. The AUDIO button at the bottom center will display the active source. The blue slide indicates current audio level:

  • To raise or lower the volume, hold the appropriate button until the level is correct.
  • To return to the remote controls for the current device, touch its icon.

Logging out

To end your session, press START in the lower left, then press SHUTDOWN, and then press YES.

Once you start the shutdown sequence, you cannot re-enter the program for two minutes, during which time you will hear the cooling fan in the LCD projector.

Tutorial

To become more familiar with the audio and video capabilities of the Crestron systems, see the Crestron tutorial. Though based on the systems in Cavanaugh Hall at IUPUI, it is also applicable to Crestron systems on other Indiana University campuses.
