In Windows, how can I ping an IU computer from outside the IU network?

To protect against denial of service attacks, UITS Network Operations has blocked pings of 32 bytes (the Windows default) from outside the Indiana University network. To ping an IU computer from outside the IU network, use the  -l  (lower case L) option to change the packet size. For example, enter:

ping -l 16 address

Replace address with the name or IP number of the computer you want to ping. This directs your computer to ping the selected host with 16 bytes of data.
