At IU, how can I view my degree progress or create a "what-if" report based on possible course scenarios?

If you are an Indiana University student, you can review degree progress based on courses you have completed, and also run a "what-if" analysis based on possible course plans.

On this page:

Academic advisement report

This report allows you to view your progress towards your degree based on courses you have completed. To get a report:

  1. Log into OneStart. The "Student Center" area should be visible; if it is not, select the Services tab, and choose the Student Self-Service section on the left.

    Click Go to Student Center.

Note: The Student Center and other Self-Service applications use pop-up pages and subpages. If your Internet pop-up blocker is set to block all pop-ups, you'll need to turn it off or change the setting to allow them; see How do I enable or disable pop-ups in web browsers? For further assistance, contact your local Support Center.

  2. Under "Academics", click My Academics & Grades.

  3. Under "Advising", click View my advisement report.

  4. Select the institution and report type from the drop-down menus, and then click Process Request.

Note: To view a printer-friendly version of the advisement report, at the bottom of the report, click Printer Friendly. When saving the printer-friendly report in .pdf format, follow university guidelines for the storage of protected data; see Protection of Sensitive Institutional and Personal Data. Do not store the printer-friendly advisement report on the desktop or hard drive of a university computer; instead, save it to a secure server.

Creating a what-if scenario report

To see what effect changing your program of study would have on your progress toward a degree, run a "what-if" advisement report based on the alternate program of study:

  1. Follow steps 1-2 from the Academic advisement report section above.

  2. Under "Advising", click What-if Advisement Report.

  3. Click Create New Report.

  4. Using the drop-down menus, select your institution, career (undergraduate, graduate, etc.), and the catalog year (the term for which you want the change to take place). If the institution and career do not need to be changed, leave them as they are.

  5. Using the drop-down menus, select the academic program, academic plan type, and the area of study (major/minor).

  6. Click Submit Request to run your report.

  7. The what-if report will display with "Simulated Program" shown at the top of the report.

Creating a course scenario what-if report

To see how specific courses fit into your degree requirements, create a course scenario what-if report, and then run your advisement report:

  1. Follow steps 1-4 from the Creating a what-if scenario report section above.

  2. If you are only running a course scenario what-if report, you will not have to change the program and area of study. These fields should be set to your current program and area of study by default.

  3. Click Course Catalog Search.

  4. Select the institution.

  5. Click search for a subject, and then select the letter for course subject.

  6. Click select next to the desired course subject.

  7. Enter the catalog number, and then click Search.

  8. The course(s) should display. Click select next to the desired course.

  9. If the class is a variable credit course, choose the number of credit hours you're planning to take by selecting it from the drop-down menu in the "Units" column.

  10. Enter the projected grade into the "Grade Input" field.

  11. To add additional courses, repeat steps 3-10.

  12. Click Submit Request to run your report.
