At IU, how can I deliver pages via a secure web server?

If you have an account on Webserve, Indiana University's central web server, you can deliver your pages via a secure web server by placing them in your wwws directory (or one of its subdirectories).

To create a wwws directory:

  1. Log into your Webserve account.

  2. Enter mkdir wwws .

  3. Enter chmod go-rx,go+x wwws .

The wwws directory is protected for execute access only. This prevents indexes or directory listings from being requested by browsers when there is no index.html file in the directory.

For more information, see the IU Webmaster's Secure WWW Server.
