Logging into OneStart

On this page:

Requirements to access OneStart

For full access to OneStart, you need a valid Indiana University Network ID username and passphrase. After you get your IU Network ID, you need to wait approximately one hour before you can log into OneStart. If after an hour you still cannot log in, contact your local Support Center.

Note: If when you attempt to log into OneStart you receive an error message that mentions missing account information in the Translate or Directory service, inform the Support Center consultant about this specific message.

Guest access to OneStart

If you do not have an IU Network ID, you can access OneStart with a Guest account; see At IU, how do I create a Guest account? When using a Guest account to access OneStart, you will need to log in using your full Guest account email address (e.g.,  dvader@hotmail.com ).

How to log into OneStart

To access IU's OneStart portal, go to:

https://onestart.iu.edu/

Browse the public view of the portal to get a glimpse of the services and features available in OneStart. To log into OneStart, click Login.

Check SafeWord if you require access to application and services protected by strong authentication. To authenticate via SafeWord, you must have a SafeWord card; do not select this option if you do not have one. See At IU, what is a SafeWord card and how do I get one?

Note: If you have bookmarked OneStart, be sure you have the correct URL. Unlike many web URLs, the OneStart URL does not begin with "www".

Logging in multiple times

Not all services published in OneStart have converted authentication to use the Central Authentication Service (CAS). Therefore, these services, including IU Webmail and Outlook Web Access (OWA), require separate authentication within OneStart.

Conversion to CAS is a high priority for UITS, and UITS encourages all other service owners with authentication requirements to use CAS. Eventually, most or all OneStart services will use CAS, allowing access to all services with only one login.

Problems

If you experience difficulty logging into OneStart, check the following:

  • Make sure you are using a supported browser; see About OneStart and web browsers.

  • Make sure you are using your IU Network ID username and passphrase and that you have entered both correctly. Your username and passphrase are case sensitive, which means that you must use the correct uppercase or lowercase characters.

  • If you have reset your passphrase using the Passphrase Maintenance utility within the past few weeks but still cannot log into OneStart, visit your campus Support Center to request a passphrase reset using the Super Passphrase Maintenance utility.

  • If you have a sponsored account and cannot log into OneStart, the PeopleSoft system may not yet have identified you as an affiliate. This may take one full business day after your sponsor submits the request for your account.

If you continue to have problems with your sponsored account, ask your sponsor to contact the UITS Support Center.
