ARCHIVED: In Windows, how do I create a desktop shortcut to IU Webmail?
To create a shortcut that takes you immediately to IU Webmail in Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, or XP:
- Right-click anywhere on the desktop of your computer. From the
menu that appears, select
New, thenShortcut. A new window calledCreate Shortcutwill appear.
- Click the
Browse...button. In theBrowse for Folderwindow, selectMy Computer. Double-click your hard drive (typically theC:drive) and then double-clickProgram Files. From there, you must go to slightly different places to get to Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Netscape:
- For Internet Explorer, select the
Internet Explorerfolder and select the icon that saysIEXPLOREorIEXPLORE.EXE. ClickOK. - For Firefox, select the
Program Filesfolder and thenMozilla Firefox, and then scroll down and select thefirefoxfile (it may have a Firefox icon next to it). ClickOK. - For Netscape, select the
Netscapefolder and then the folder for your version of Netscape (e.g.,Netscape 7). Look for and select the file namednetscp6,netscp6.exe,netscp7, ornetscp7.exe. ClickOK.
- For Internet Explorer, select the
- You will be back at the
Create Shortcutwindow with a path name in quotation marks. Click to place the cursor at the end of that path name, press the Spacebar, and then typewebmail.iu.edu/.
- Click the
Nextbutton. You will be prompted for a name for the shortcut. Type a name and clickFinish.
