At IU, in Eudora for Windows, how can I read my Exchange mail using IMAP?
Configure Eudora
To configure Eudora to read your Exchange email, follow these steps:
- To set up a new Personality (Eudora's term for account
configuration settings), from the
Toolsmenu, choosePersonalities. Then right-click anywhere in thePersonalitieswindow and selectNew. This will begin the New Account Wizard.
- Once the New Account Wizard is open, click
Nextand selectCreate New Email Account.
- For "Your Name", enter your full name as you would like it to
appear. Click
Next.
- For "Email Address", enter your Indiana University email address, and then click
Next.If you are unsure of your exact IU email address, see At IU, what is my email address?
- For "Login Name", enter your IU username. Click
Next.
- For "Incoming Server", enter
imap.exchange.iu.edu, and then clickNext.
- For "Type of Server", choose
IMAP, and then clickNext. On the next screen, leave the "IMAP Location Prefix" field blank.
- For "Outgoing Server", enter: mail-relay.iu.edu
- Select
Allow Authentication.
- Click
Next, and thenFinish.
Enable SSL
To enable SSL, follow these directions:
- In Eudora, select
Tools, and thenOptions. Set both "Checking Mail:" and "Sending Mail:" toRequired, Alternate Port.
- To verify the SSL certificate is in place, in Eudora, click
the
Personalitiesbutton. Right-click the Personality that should contain the SSL certificate and chooseProperties.
- Click the
Incoming Mailtab, and then clickLast SSL Info. If you have not been granted an SSL certificate, you will see an error message that says "You have never checked mail using SSL connection with this Personality since the last time you started Eudora."Note: The exception to this is when you verify your SSL information by selecting
Tools, thenOptions, and thenChecking Mail:; in this case, you will always see the above error.
Note: At IU, do not check the box next to Enable
Certification for sending mail. If you do so you will not be able to send mail through IU's mail relays.
