In Windows 2000 and XP, how can I add a shortcut for my Control Panel to the Start menu?
To add a Control Panel shortcut to your Start menu in Windows 2000 and XP:
- Right-click the
Startbutton and clickExplore.
- An
Exploring-Start Menuwindow will open. Within the right panel, right-click in the empty space. A pop-up menu will appear. SelectNew, and thenFolder.
- In the right panel of the
Exploring-Start Menuwindow, you will see a new folder. In Windows XP, replace the line "New Folder" with the following: .{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}In Windows 2000, replace the line "New Folder" with the following:
Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} - Press
Enter.
You will now find a Control Panel shortcut in your Start
menu. When you select Control Panel, a submenu will appear
with a list of the items in your Control Panel. Following the
instructions above, you may add other useful folders, using the text
strings indicated below:
In Windows XP, you do not need to include the text before the dot.
Note: You can add a History shortcut only if you have Internet Explorer 5.0 or later installed on your computer.
