ARCHIVED: In Windows 2000, how do I use IP printing?

You will need the printer's IP address before you proceed.

To use IP printing, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start and select Settings, then Printers.

  2. Double-click the Add Printer icon. In the Add Printer Wizard that appears, click Next.

  3. Choose Local printer and uncheck Automatically detect my printer. Click Next.

  4. Click Create a new port. From the drop-down menu next to "Type:", choose Standard TCP/IP Port. Click Next.

Note: If you already have a standard TCP/IP port, choose Use the following port, highlight the port, and skip to step 6.

  5. Click Next again, and then enter the IP address of the printer. The port name will be generated automatically. Click Finish.

  6. Select the printer's manufacturer and model from the lists and click Next.

  7. Enter a name for your printer or keep the default name. Then select Yes if you want this to be your default printer (otherwise, select No). Then click Next.

  8. You can choose to share this printer or not. If you choose to share the printer, you have to give it a sharing name. After you have done this, click Next.

  9. Windows 2000 will ask whether you want to print a test page or not. It's a good idea to print a test page to make sure that the IP printing service is working. Choose Yes and click Next.

  10. Click Finished when you're done.

  11. Click OK if the test page printed correctly.
