How do I use the Knowledge Base?
For more information about searching the Knowledge Base, click the
Help link at the top of any Knowledge Base page.
The Knowledge Base has three "front doors": the menu, the glossary, and the search page.
The menu is the best entrance to the Knowledge Base if you are new to searching the web, but it provides direct access to only a small subset of the total Knowledge Base content. The glossary is an alphabetical collection of all the "What is..." documents in the Knowledge Base, while Knowledge Base searches provide access to all Knowledge Base documents. Help for each of these interfaces is available on each page.
When you search the Knowledge Base or use the menu or glossary, you will see a list of document titles. Click any title to see the document's content. Many documents offer links to other web resources, and at the bottom of most documents you'll find links to related Knowledge Base documents. Select any of these links, or use your web browser's back button to go back to the menu or your original search return.
The Knowledge Base is a resource for finding answers to questions about computing at Indiana University. If you are not a member of the IU community, some information in the Knowledge Base might not apply to your computing environment. Since the Knowledge Base is in specific question-and-answer format, it is not the best place to get an overview of a computing resource or application, or to learn about basic computing concepts.
For general information about computing at IU, see the UITS home page.
If you're at IU and your question isn't answered by the Knowledge Base,
you can request help by using the No, and I'd like to ask a
consultant link at the bottom of every Knowledge Base page.
Additionally, a wealth of information about using the Knowledge Base is provided in the Knowledge Base itself; refer to the list below.
