In Microsoft Windows, how do I modify the screen saver settings?

In Windows, to modify the screen saver settings, follow the appropriate steps below:

Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, or XP

  1. Right-click the desktop and, from the menu that appears, select Properties.

  2. In the Display Properties window, select the Screen Saver tab.

  3. From the "Screen Saver" list, select the desired screen saver. To set the advanced settings, click the Settings... button. If you want to set a password, check the box next to Password Protected. In the "Wait:" box, set the desired delay time.

  4. To see the new screen saver settings in action, click the Preview button.

  5. To save your changes and exit, in the Display Properties window, click OK.

Windows 3.x

Note: The software discussed here is no longer in common use at Indiana University, and UITS may no longer be able to verify the document's accuracy. The UITS Support Center may no longer have the manuals and other materials required to support this software adequately.

  1. In the Main program group, double-click the Control Panel icon.

  2. In the Control Panel window, double-click the Desktop icon.

  3. The options for changing the screen saver are about halfway down the Desktop Settings window. In the "Delay" option, select the time delay for the screen saver.

  4. For advanced settings, click the Setup button. These specific settings are different for each screen saver. You can also set the screen saver password. When you are finished, click OK.

  5. To see the new screen saver settings in action, click the Test button.

  6. In the Desktop Settings window, to save the changes and exit, click OK.
