At IU, how can I find the names of all the LISTSERV lists?

To find the names of all the Indiana University LISTSERV lists, either use the LISTSERV web interface or send an email command to the LISTSERV server.

Using the LISTSERV web interface

You can find information about many IU LISTSERV lists on each campus's LISTSERV archive index:

  Campus LISTSERV archive
  IU Bloomington https://listserv.indiana.edu/archives/index.html
  IUPUI https://listserv.iupui.edu/archives/index.html
  IU Kokomo https://listserv.iuk.edu/archives/index.html
  IU Northwest https://listserv.iun.edu/archives/index.html
  IU Southeast https://listserv.ius.edu/archives/index.html
  IU South Bend https://listserv.iusb.edu/archives/index.html

Note: Several lists on the IU LISTSERV servers are confidential; their names will not appear on the index page.

Note: On the LISTSERV web interface, via the Subscribers Corner, the instructions under "To subscribe to one or more lists:" will not work. Due to hardware constraints, the option to select All Lists from the "Show" field in the navigation sidebar is not available. However, this feature is enabled on the IUPUI LISTSERV web interface.

Using email commands

You can use the LISTS command to get a list of local lists to which you are subscribed. To do this, send the following command in the body (not the subject) of a message addressed to the LISTSERV server:

LISTS

Note: For Indiana University LISTSERV mailing lists, send all commands to the appropriate address for your campus:

  Campus Server address
  IU Bloomington listserv@indiana.edu
  IUPUI listserv@iupui.edu
  IU Kokomo listserv@iuk.edu
  IU Northwest listserv@iun.edu
  IU South Bend listserv@iusb.edu
  IU Southeast listserv@ius.edu

Never send commands to the address of the mailing list (e.g., to  listname@indiana.edu ). Send only messages intended for members of the list to the list's address.

Finding other public lists

Because there are so many public LISTSERV lists, you cannot use the LIST GLOBAL command via the IU LISTSERV servers without adding a search string to limit the size of the file that will be returned to you. Send the following command in the body (not the subject) of a message to the LISTSERV server: LISTS GLOBAL /search-string

Replace search-string with a word or phrase to look for in the name or title of all the lists.

Also, to search for a list on a particular topic, you can use L-Soft's CataList service at:
