In Fetch 3 or 4, how do I set the permissions on my web pages so that web browsers can see them?
In Fetch 3.0 and higher for Mac OS and Mac OS X, it is possible to remotely change the permissions of files and directories on some web servers. (With some older servers, and those that do not accept FTP connections, you will not be able to use this method.)
To set the permissions on your web pages in Fetch 3 or 4, open a connection to the computer where you edit your web page. Then follow these steps:
- Highlight the directory or file for which you would like to set
permissions.
- From the
Remotemenu, selectSet Permissions....
- To set permissions for a directory, from the dialog box that
appears, select the following:
- "Owner:"
Read,Write,Search/Execute - "Group:"
Read,Search/Execute - "Everyone:"
Read,Search/Execute
- "Owner:"
- To set permissions for a file, from the dialog box that appears,
select:
- "Owner:"
Read,Write,Search/Execute - "Group:"
Read - "Everyone:"
Read
- "Owner:"
Note: Unless you want other people to have the
ability to modify or delete your files or directories, make sure that
the Write box is not selected for
Group and Everyone.
Note: You need to use a client that supports secure FTP to transfer files to and from Indiana University's central systems. For more, see At IU, what SSH/SFTP clients are supported and where can I get them?
