ARCHIVED: What is ARNS?

Note: The software discussed here is no longer in common use at Indiana University, and UITS may no longer be able to verify the document's accuracy. The UITS Support Center may no longer have the manuals and other materials required to support this software adequately.

ARNS (A Remote Network Server) is software that allows your Mac OS computer to use AppleTalk services (such as printing and file sharing) over a modem connection.

ARNS allows you to establish a connection with an AppleTalk network over a PPP or SLIP connection, though ARNS runs at significantly slower speeds. Once an ARNS connection is up and running, you'll be connected to an AppleTalk network where you can access servers and printers.

ARNS is no longer supported at Indiana University.
