In Mac OS X, how do I find the original (parent) of an alias?
An alias is a "pointer file" used in Mac OS X as a shortcut to a file, application, or volume elsewhere on the computer or network. When you double-click the alias, you open the file it points to (the parent).
To find the parent, single-click the alias, and from the File
menu, select Show Original. Alternatively, you can
single-click the alias and then press
Cmd-r .
