In Windows, how do I create a new folder?

Folders are subdirectories which can contain files and other folders. You can create new folders using one of the methods below:

Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, and XP

In Windows Explorer (or Windows NT Explorer)

  1. Select the drive and folder in which you wish to create a new folder. You may also create folders on the desktop.

  2. From the File menu, select New, then Folder. A folder called New Folder will appear.

  3. Enter a name for the folder.

On the desktop

  1. Right-click the desktop (i.e., any part of the screen not occupied by a window).

  2. Select New, then Folder. A new folder will appear on the desktop. Enter a name for the folder.

Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups 3.11, and Windows NT 3.51

  1. Start File Manager, and select the drive on which you wish to create a folder.

  2. Select the folder in which you would like to create the new folder. If you wish to create a new folder off the root folder of a drive, select the root folder of the drive (usually designated as C:\ or D:).

  3. From the File menu, select Create Directory. You will be asked to name the directory. In DOS/Windows 3.1, folder (or directory) names are limited to eight characters in length, and may have a three-character extension (i.e., as with files, you may include a  .  [dot] and an extra three letters in a folder's name).
This is document abzu in domain all.
