Why am I receiving multiple copies of every print job I send to my network-connected printer?

If multiple printouts occur with only certain applications, check your printing options within those applications. If this doesn't help, or if multiple printouts occur when printing from all applications, in Windows, check the printing options in the Printer control panel. (In Mac OS X, the number of copies is controlled only in each individual application.)

If unwanted copies print from more than one application, and your printing options specify printing a single copy, try the following (you may need the assistance of a network administrator):

  • Check the printer's configuration on the printer itself. The printer may be set to print multiple copies of every job; make sure the Copies = menu item is set to  1  (the numeral one).

  • If the printer is a network printer managed by a JetDirect print server, run the JETADMIN utility to check the network settings for the printer.
