How can I find out how busy a Unix computer is?

While logged into a particular Unix system, to find out the system load and number of people logged in, enter:

uptime

To see a continuously updated list of the most time-consuming jobs running on a Unix system, enter:

top

When you have finished checking the list, to quit the display, press  q .
